Challenge: 

Previously, no official job aid was available in the cafe prep area, resulting in inconsistent preparation and misunderstandings from the food prep staff regarding proper protocols.  Existing job aids were either inconsistent or nonexistent. Depending on the location, food prep staff or chefs created informal, self-made guides that varied in accuracy and detail. This lack of a standardized reference contributed to inconsistent toast quality, increased food waste, and a rise in incorrectly prepared orders across multiple cafe locations.

Solution: 

To solve this problem, I created a clear and visually guided job aid in a recipe format using Google Docs for the layout, Photoshop for image editing, and Adobe Stock for supplemental visuals. The job aid includes step-by-step instructions, standardized measurements, and tools required for each toast. This provides the food prep staff with a consistent and accessible reference to use during shifts. 

Results: 

This project addressed the need for an on-the-job reference tool for preparing two of Pinpoint Cafe’s signature toasts. The job aid improves consistency in toast preparation by providing clear, easy-to-follow visual and written instructions. It serves as a quick reference tool that supports accuracy in ingredient measurements, portion control, and overall presentation. As a result, there is a reduction in food waste, fewer order remakes, improved staff confidence, and a more consistent customer experience across locations.
